Googles Revolutionary A.I.

Ever since Google has entered the market, there have been multiple differences in how we function and go about our daily lives. Google quickly became popular with its search engine and is now the most used search engine worldwide. With its popularity, Google has been expanding its boundaries to new pieces of technology such as the Google Pixel, a phone, and soon, Google Stadia, their own gaming console.

But that’s not as important right now, and if any of y’all haven’t read our previous posts, then I should mention that we are a blog about A.I. What’s important is the many ways Google uses A.I. in their search engine and other technologies. Google has been revolutionizing the world using A.I. to perform various tasks.

The search engine was a very useful tool in the past 20 years. The first one to come was Archie Query Form. These primitive search engines were designed to find a website with the highest number of words that match the search rather than the content. For example, if your search was ‘artificial intelligence,’ then the search engine would be focused on the number of times the words artificial intelligence are shown on a website. The website with the most matching words to the keywords will end up somewhere in the top of the found information. Google later came to a better algorithmic solution making the results more content based rather than the number of matches. The content of the search results were rather more relevant to the actual search. Google was more focused on the quality of the website rather than the actual notability of the website.

The search engine also uses A.I. when it comes to the image search. This is because you are able to use a picture to search for more images like that one. All you have to do is insert an existing image into the Google Images search box. This can help users quickly learn about the general topic that's present in the image.

This “image A.I.” has also seeped into the Google Assistant and Google calls it Google Lens. This product analyzes your pictures on demand to be able to find similar results or simply convert text into copy-able information. This is especially useful in analyzing a business card since it will be able to save the contact effortlessly without having to copy the information manually. Things like this increase the efficiency in our daily lives and possibly make us a bit lazy as well.

Google Lens continues to grow at a rapid rate. It will soon be quicker and be able to analyze finer detail. Today, it is not been able to distinguish 2 very similar objects and may even give the wrong identification of the object. For example, Google Lens cannot distinguish between a hibiscus and a carnation, two very similar flowers, yet very different.

Google lens will soon come with more better analysis of objects in the future. It will be able to analyze more pictures and identify more similar objects using advanced algorithms. Google also announced that they are adding AR to their product. This will enable people to actively learn about their surroundings and change the way people shop.

Using A.I. to make searching for information easier is probably one of the largest ways that Google has used A.I. to revolutionize their search engine, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t others that should be left out. In fact, there are actually a bunch of small things that many of us may not even realize are powered by artificial intelligence.

If you have used Google at any point in time, you’ve probably used Google Maps at some point too. When using Google Maps, an A.I. is used to calculate the most efficient paths to get to your destination. YouTube uses A.I. to search for keywords that may hint at videos being offensive and blocks them on YouTube Safe Content. This same feature is involved in YouTube monetization of videos. So many videos are posted every minute that it would be impossible for humans to check every single video. To counter this, Google uses its A.I., again, to look for content that is either very explicate or uses copyright information.

Of course, these are relatively small uses in the grand scheme of things, but these small things have made some of the processes many times more efficient than before and allowed for a smoother experience (Even though many YouTubers hate the Monetization feature since it demonetized a lot of content that isn’t bad or has no copyright information).

One of the more advanced features of Google that use A.I. is Google Assistant. This product essentially runs entirely on A.I. and provides many features because of it. With the uses of DeepMind, a neural system that can manipulate and analyze data, and their own A.I., Google Assistant is capable of recognizing many different languages, learning speech patterns, finding recommended places such as restaurants, and various other abilities.

All in all, Google has a huge impact on the way that A.I. has grown. It has created a platform for learning while also increasing productivity. Google will also continue to grow and revolutionize the way that we search for our answers along with the way that we work by seamlessly integrating A.I. into its products and into our lives. Google has made a positive impact in our lives today, but as always, there could be problems in the future (We might get lazy as I mentioned earlier).
